A Nanny’s Essential Responsibilities May Include:
- Interacting with the children with an understanding of age-related developmental issues. Guiding the children to solve problems and make good choices
- Keeping the children safe at all times inside and outside the home
- Providing and/or preparing nutritional meal planning, including snacks for the children
- Being able to handle emergency situations calmly with reassurance and swiftness
- Practicing and teaching sanitary habits and maintaining the children’s cleanliness; i.e.: washing hands before eating meals
- Managing the household as requested by the employer, which may include light housework related to the children, including but not limited to the children’s laundry, children’s playroom, children’s bedroom, and family kitchen
- Providing opportunities for recreation, such as playing at the park, swimming, soccer, and bicycle riding, and participating in those activities as appropriate
- Creating, teaching and tutoring the children within the scope of the job duties assigned by the parents (e.g.: assisting the children with their homework)
- Communicating daily with the parents regarding the children and discussing daily occurrences. Following the parent’s guidance on discipline and child rearing with their children.
- Modeling mature, positive behavior and teaching children how to resolve conflicts and follow rules
- Having a patient, understanding and cheerful demeanor
- Driving the children to appointments, play dates, school and activities while following all traffic laws, including placing children in car seats and seat belts at all times.
